Two Tools, Two Purposes
Many people starting with Claude wonder: does this replace Google? The answer is no — but Claude does many things Google has never been good at.
Use Google When You Want To
- Find breaking news — Google indexes the web in real time
- Find specific websites — you are looking for a particular shop, article, or service
- Local searches — nearby restaurants, opening hours, maps
- Images and videos — Google Images and YouTube are superior
- Verify facts — check Claude answers against reliable websites
Use Claude When You Want To
- Write and rewrite text — email, report, job application, blog post
- Understand complex topics — ask Claude to explain as if you are a beginner
- Analyze documents — paste a contract and ask for a summary
- Brainstorm ideas — Google gives links, Claude thinks with you
- Coding — debug, write, or explain code
- Translation with context — not just word-for-word, but natural language
Golden rule: Google finds. Claude understands, writes, and thinks.
A Concrete Example
You want to write a complaint letter to your insurance company. Google cannot help you with the wording. Claude writes a professional letter based on the situation you describe — you just need to explain what happened in your own words.
